    Literally “the ground/foundation is…” Used as a filler phrase meaning “the main thing is,” “what matters most is,” or “the bottom line is.” Very common in spoken Polish.

    Functions as a sentence opener. 'Grunt to zdrowie' (the main thing is health) is a classic example. 'To' here is a linking particle, not the pronoun.
