    What it means

After Saint Agatha’s day, laundry will dry on the fence. A variant of the same seasonal proverb: from February 5th onward, the sun is warm enough to dry washing hung outside.

    Vocabulary

    • bielizna — laundry, linen, underwear
    • płot — fence
    • wyschnąć — to dry out

    Grammar note

'Na płocie' — locative of 'płot'. 'Wyschnie' is third person singular future perfective.

    Cultural context

Hanging laundry on fences was common in rural Poland. The proverb marks the transition from winter to early spring.
